Sloppy Joe Pizza

I saw a recipe for sloppy joe pizza a few months ago. We love sloppy joes and the concept seemed really tasty but the recipe involved all processed/pre-made ingredients. I figured it wouldn't be too hard to make a homemade one!

2 uncooked pizza crusts of your choice...we did 1 GF and 1 Regular*

Sauce:
1 lb ground beef or turkey
2 cups tomato sauce( approx 1-15 oz can)
2 TB cider vinegar
1 TB brown sugar
1 tsp yellow mustard
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
2 tsp chili powder
salt and pepper to taste

Remaining toppings, amounts are to your preference, dont go overboard of course, it makes it more difficult to cook.

green bell pepper, chopped fine
white onion, chopped fine
green onions, chopped
Cheese(whatever kind floats your boat, cheddar, mozzarella, pepper jack....endless!)

In a skillet brown beef or turkey until cooked through. Add in remaining sauce ingredients.

Bring to a boil and reduce heat to medium low, cover and simmer 20 minutes. Uncover and simmer 10 minutes more until thickened.

Preheat oven to 400

Scoop 1/2 the meat mixture onto each pizza crust, sprinkle with peppers and both onions.  Sprinkle with cheese.
Place in preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes until bubbly and browning evenly.

Allow to set 5 minutes for easier slicing.

We left off the green peppers and onions for the kids on the GF pizza

*Our favorite pizza crust
double it for 2 crusts!!

2 tsps yeast
1 cup warm water
1 TB sugar
2 TB olive oil
1/2 tsp sea salt
2 1/2-3 cups flour

Combine yeast, water and sugar and allow to sit 5 minutes until nice and foamy

Add in olive oil and salt, then 1/2 cup at a time add in flour, knead until smooth and elastic.

Hand knead for a few moments then roll  into your circular shape on a greased pizza pan(sprinkled with cornmeal if you like)
